Weeping to Dancing
Sunday I preached from Psalm 30 and titled the sermon, “Why are you weeping?” This is a Psalm of David that he wrote for the dedication of his palace.
This Psalm reflects back over David’s life. He
shares how he felt during the low points and how God raised him up. The key
words David uses are found in verse 5, “Weeping
may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning” and in verse 1l,
“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing.”
There are times of weeping that come to everyone’s life. Even Jesus wept at the tomb of His friend, Lazareth. But, for the Christian, times of weeping are to be short in duration. Even when a loved one passes away, the grief is turned to joy when we begin to think about the resurrection.
Unfortunately, many Christians never rise out of the grief mode. If you are not rejoicing, you are in a weeping mode. The question then is “Why are you weeping?”
Is it because of the death of a loved one? Is it because you have been hurt by a friend? Is it because you lack the money needed for basic necessities of life?
The truth is, these issues and others cause us to feel God has let us down? At the tomb of Lazareth, Mary and Martha were crying for their brother but they were also crying because they felt Jesus had let them down by not coming soon enough to heal Larareth. However, their weeping was soon turned into rejoicing when Jesus raised their brother from the dead.
This is what God wants to do for us. He wants to turn our mourning into dancing. Our loved ones will be raised to life again. Money is on the way to meet our financial needs. Forgiveness will restore our relationship with our friends.
Perhaps God has already dealt with all these issues in our life. If that is the case we need to get out of the weeping mode that has gripped us so long and let our mourning be turned into dancing.
Are you mourning today? Ask God to turn your mourning into dancing.
