God’s Word and His Messenger
The Word of God is accompanied by God’s power to perform it.
· Heb. 11: 3By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
· Gen. 1: 3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
· Is. 55: 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
God’s Word is not like the words of men. He never has to apologize for being wrong.
· Num 23: 19“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
· Ps. 107: 19Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. 20He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.
God sends His perfect Word through imperfect people
Moses – bashful, introverted, inferiority complex
Aaron – wishy-washy, people pleaser
Jonah – a racial bigot, uncompassionate
Elijah – prone to depression and fear
Samuel – sons a disgrace, dishonest, took bribes, perverted justice
Peter – easily influenced by Satan at times, egotistical, denied the Lord, prone to be a people pleaser even after the resurrection.
· James 5: The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain…
· 2 Cor. 4: 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
Paul laid down his education and his powers that he might be used of God
1 Cor. 2: 3I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of £human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
If you are not wise by human standards, not influential, not of noble birth, you have a good chance to be used by God.
1 Cor. 2: 26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”£
