Area Wide Campout 2002

We Took 1st Place for

Overall Campsite.

Good job Outpost 43

We went camping at the Area Wide Campout near Meeker Oklahoma. The pictures turned out great! We were one of the last outposts to arrive at the campgrounds. This was location B because of possible bad weather this location had a pavilion and many trees. However, there were hardly any tents setup. We asked around and found that most outposts were concerned about a thunderstorm that may come through the area around midnight. They were headed to the Meek Assemble of God church following the council fire (Plan C) We talked it over with our commanders and decided that we had all of the equipment and the boys were READY for the weather. So we set up camp.

After setting up camp we went to the evening council fire. Following council fire we returned to camp, however we realized that we left our marshmallows at the church, so we told a few stories then the boys were ready to head to their tents because it was getting cool outside. The boys talked for a while and around 11 something the Trailblazers (Chad and Daniel) arrived from Teen Talent. Finally we called it a night. During the night the wind blew quite a bit. In fact, one patrol did not have their rain fly securely fastened to the ten and it blew to the side of tent. A couple of the commanders noticed the problem and quickly fixed it. Before morning we had a few sprinkles, a couple clasps of thunder, and a streak or two of lightening, but no major storm.

There several Pioneers cooked some wonderful hamburgers, while the other boys worked on making some cane poles to go fishing. Following lunch we went back to the church where we were given the #1 overall campsite award! There ended up only being 3 outposts that set up camp and stayed out. It's still 1st place no matter, and the boys earned every bit of it. We then got to do a little cane pole fishing with some grasshoppers we caught. We didn't catch anything and it was time to break camp, so we broke camp and came home.

It was a good campout and a lot of fun. Outpost 43 you did a good  job.
