Many churches name their church by the street on which they are located. Our church previously was named Central Church because it was located on Central Avenue. In 1966, the church relocated to its present location but the name remained Central Church.

For the last two years our church has been experiencing great joy in our worship and in our personal lives. Upon researching the Bible it is clear that joy should be one of the identifying characteristics of a Christian. Jesus said in John 16:24  “…Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” He told His disciples that even during persecution they were to “… Rejoice in that day and leap for joy…” Luke 6:22.

We know that there are times of sorrow and weeping for everyone but the Psalmist David said “…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5

“House of Joy Church” is a name that reflects what is happening in our church and what the mission of our church has become. We want to be messengers of joy to the world as the angels were long ago when they spoke of “…tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” Luke 2:11.  We want people to know that the God of the Bible is a giving God and gives to bring pleasure to Himself and to us.

Jesus said,  “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32.  Saint Paul said, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32.

Far too many Christians remain in a weeping mode when it is time to rejoice. Weeping is a fact of life but it is to be of short duration. The Prophet Isaiah said God would  “...give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…” Isaiah 61:3

Prayer

“May the Creator of us all who “…has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows…” (Isaiah 53:4) give us the joy that He purchased for us all. May we put aside our doubt of His glorious love and enter into the joy that He has provided for us. May we share His joy and His love with our fellowman.  Amen.”
